Pharmaceutical makers urge tax cuts to boost local medicine production

The Uganda Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association has urged the government to reduce taxes on equipment and raw materials used in the production of essential medicines.

The manufacturers say that tax cuts would enable them to boost local production, especially of medicines derived from herbal sources, which could help curb the uncontrolled use of unprocessed local herbs that often worsen medical conditions instead of treating them.
