Indeed, Uganda’s high population growth rate of 3%, coupled with a high urbanisation rate translates into glaring gaps in the demand and supply of decent housing units. The current housing deficit is estimated at 2.4 million housing units. Given the housing gaps, nearly half (48.3%) of the country’s urban population lives in informal and substandard settlements that are in a dreadful state and require upgrade or replacement. Consequently, by 2025 the population of Uganda is estimated to be 52 million people and the housing deficit to increase to 4 million.
