Anti counterfeit bill: Public hearings to take two months
This week, the anti-counterfeiting network, with members of parliament, kicked off public hearings which will last two months before the bill starts to be debated in parliament. This is a private member's bill sponsored by Asuman Basalirwa, MP for Bugiri Municipality. Officials say consultations will be carried out for a period of 3 months beginning April 2024 and will take place at selected locations in the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western regions of Uganda. If the new counterfeit bill were passed, counterfeiters would receive up to 10 years in prison, on top of other penalties.
