Government proposes ban on election fundraising
There is a proposal to initiate a total ban on fundraising during the election period because the practice inflates the cost of elections. The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, says the measure is intended to stop the commercialization of politics, which drives up the cost of elections and excludes those without financial means. The reforms are embedded in a draft of proposals, which also include a complete shift to electronic voting.
