International Literacy Day 2024: Emphasizing multilingual education
Since 1967, the country has marked International Literacy Day every 8th September. This year is no different, with celebrations set to be held under the theme, “Promotion of Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace.” In Uganda, progress has been made in improving literacy levels, focusing on providing quality education by overhauling the national curriculum to make it more competence and skills-based. However, while there has been significant attention on enhancing the national curriculum at both primary and secondary levels, little focus has been given to the international curriculum offered in the country and its role in improving literacy levels.
