Malaria still leading cause of death in Uganda despite government interventions
The Minister for Health, Ruth Jane Aceng, says malaria remains the leading cause of death and disease burden in Uganda, despite government interventions aimed at preventing the disease. She disclosed that 30 to 40% of outpatient visits to health facilities are due to malaria. Additionally, 20% of all hospital admissions and 10% of inpatient deaths are attributed to the disease. Minister Aceng stated that the government has implemented several measures, such as the free distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, indoor residual spraying, and vaccination. However, she noted that these efforts are being abused by the public.
