Pokot tree conservation tradition threatened by agriculture
The Pokot of Amudat District in northeastern Uganda have long upheld a tradition of preserving indigenous trees, which are crucial to their cultural heritage and the ecosystem, through their deep-rooted beliefs, customs, and traditional justice systems. However, as agricultural expansion takes hold in the region, this tradition is increasingly under threat, highlighting the need to balance conservation and economic development.
