UPDF destroys illegal fishing gear, confiscates immature fish worth UGX 700 Million
In a successful operation spanning from 2021, the Uganda People's Defence Forces Fisheries Protection Unit has eradicated illegal fishing nets, boats, and more than 800 kgs of immature fish valued at UGX 700 million. The crackdown took place at Kaiso and Kijangi landing sites in Hoima District, specifically in the Kaiso landing site, Kijangi landing site, Kabaale, and Buseruka sub-counties. The UPDF Marine's Head of Operations, Brigade Major Richard Mafabi, reports that the illegal gear was devastating the fish population in Lake Albert.
