New sugar council tasked with ensuring fair play, growth in Uganda’s industry

While the Sugar Council can now officially begin its work, it must not forget that its main task over the next two years is to ensure Uganda’s sugar industry operates on a level playing field for all stakeholders. Achieving this will require full transparency, while enhancing competitiveness is another critical goal. The newly inaugurated Sugar Stakeholders’ Council has been entrusted with regulating, mediating, and guiding a sector that employs 20,000 people and contributes over 500 billion shillings to the economy.
