Unopposed candidacy: signals sent to opposition politics

Uncontested elections might sound like a relic of the Victorian age, but they continue to occur regularly in almost every election cycle when there is only one candidate for a parliamentary seat. Uganda got surprising results from the recent MP nominations, which saw close to 10 candidates go unopposed. We delve into the deeper waters of Uganda’s electoral politics, and my panel includes Fred Bamwine – Commissioner, Office of the President; Richard Ssebamala – MP, Bukoto Central; and Godber Tumushabe – Political Analyst.
