Unopposed candidacy: signals sent to opposition politics

Uncontested elections might sound like a relic of the Victorian age, but they continue to occur regularly in almost every election cycle when there is only one candidate for a parliamentary seat. Uganda got surprising results from the recent MP nominations, which saw close to 10 candidates go unopposed.
