Tour operators across Africa are betting big on the potential of intra-Africa travel to grow the continent’s tourism markets. Industry experts say that if African nations can unlock easier travel within the continent, the tourism sector—currently valued at over USD 170 billion annually—could expand significantly, with intra-African visitors making up a larger share of arrivals.
On Thursday in Kampala, under an arrangement with Houston Travel Marketing South Africa, the organizers of the Spotlight Travel Expos, Ugandan tour operators joined their counterparts from Tanzania and Kenya’s coast. The aim was to jointly market regional destinations and package Africa as a unified travel experience rather than fragmented markets.
