Rubanda District Leadership is calling on community groups commonly known as engozi groups to maintain roads in the district instead of paying road gangs. Engozi groups are community groupings charged with carrying the sick, especially pregnant mothers, to hospitals on stretchers. Rubanda District grapples with a poor road network due to its hilly nature, characterised by mudslides and erosions which normally wash off the roads or block them. Rubanda District Chairperson Stephen Kasyaba made the call at the inauguration of the Ihumba – Kashasha road, which was rehabilitated with support from the Kingdom ofthe Netherlands.
