Lango stands among the five poorest sub-regions in the country, trailing just behind Karamoja, which leads with a poverty prevalence of 74 percent. Findings from the 2024 population census place both Lango and Acholi at a staggering 35 percent poverty rate, underscoring the deepening socioeconomic divide between Uganda’s richest and poorest communities. In response, Peter Okello Odeke, the Principal Hospital Administrator at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, highlighted efforts to engage the community directly in healthcare delivery, aiming to improve service quality, timeliness, and responsiveness to local needs.
