Mbwatekamwa speaks out after EC bars him from Mbarara mayoral race

The Electoral Commission has barred Igara West MP Mbwatekamwa Gaffa from contesting for the Mbarara City mayoral seat after determining that he is not a resident of the city. According to a letter dated October 23, 2025, the Electoral Commission stated that since Mbwatekamwa is not a resident of Mbarara City, he is not eligible to contest any elective position in the area. The cancellation of Mbwatekamwa’s candidature follows a petition by a group of people who questioned his eligibility to contest.
