The Church of Uganda’s St. Francis Church in Nakasongola Archdeaconry today hosted the launch of a clean cooking programme for Luwero Diocese. The initiative aims to provide affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly cooking solutions to households that have traditionally relied on firewood and charcoal.

The colourful event was presided over by the Bishop of Luwero Diocese, Rt. Rev. Wilson Kisekka, with the Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, serving as the chief guest. The British High Commissioner to Uganda, Her Excellency Elisa Chesney, also attended, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s support for Uganda’s transition to clean energy.

Officials say the programme will help reduce indoor air pollution and deforestation, ease the financial burden on families, and protect women and children, who face the greatest risks from traditional cooking methods.
