The Busoga sub-region is facing a growing public health crisis, as leaders and experts raise alarm over staggering HIV rates, rising teenage pregnancies, and persistent gender-based violence. The latest figures show that while Uganda’s national HIV prevalence sits at just under 5 percent, some parts of Busoga are experiencing rates as high as 46 percent.
