Therapy program uses dogs to overcome trauma

From public sector challenges to personal stories of resilience, one initiative is helping trauma survivors reclaim hope. Francis Okello Oloya, now the Director of the Comfort Dog Project, lost his sight at age 12 during a Lord’s Resistance Army bomb blast in Amuru District. The trauma left him suffering from PTSD and suicidal thoughts. His encounter with therapy dogs at Gulu High School in 2014 inspired the Comfort Dog Project, which now supports others recovering from psychological trauma.
