Business environment: Does investment code deliver on promises?
Uganda has been hailed as one of the leading investment destinations in Africa. In the last two decades, many investors have come into the country, setting up businesses and employing Ugandans. However, while the Investment Code Act of 2019 provides several benefits to Ugandans, including decent jobs, skills, joint ventures, and protection of the environment, little has been achieved. For example, some people involved in mining in Tororo are complaining of exploitation. The chairperson of Osukuru United Women's Network, Constance Achom, says a mining company in Tororo has been involved in the exploitation of workers and human rights violations.
