UCC receives UGX 87 billion to boost mobile connectivity
Amid Uganda’s expanding mobile connectivity and the growing adoption of mobile services, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has received a financial boost of approximately UGX 87 billion from the country’s leading telecommunications companies, MTN Uganda and Airtel. According to a recent UCC report, only 36 percent of mobile subscribers in Uganda currently have access to smartphones, in contrast to 72 percent in neighboring Kenya.
