YY Buses suspended, ministry issues stringent measures before reopening
The Ministry of Works and Transport has suspended the operations of YY Bus company, demanding that the firm ensure a full fleet inspection and peruzal of drivers' licenses before operations resume. This follows bus crashes that claimed at least four lives and sent over 40 people into hospital. The first crash saw a bus burst into flames in Buikwe before another crashed along the Kampala - Yumbe road.
However, the umbrella body that brings together bus owners , Uganda Bus Owners Association (UBOA) says the solution to all this should be dialogue.
