Uganda Baati reports sales surge amid construction boom
Steel producers in Uganda Baati are reporting significant growth in sales in the local market, driven by the construction boom in the country and the growing demand for accommodation. Additionally, revenues are increasing from growing export receipts from markets in the EAC such as DRC and South Sudan. However, local consumers may struggle to afford products such as nails, sheet steel, and roofing sheets following recent tax proposals on construction inputs. According to recent UBOS input price indices for January 2024, prices for materials rose by 400%, driven by the period.
