Commotion at court as police stop lawyers from accessing judiciary
There was commotion at the Judiciary headquarters earlier today when a team of lawyers, including Erias Lukwago, Martha Karua, and Eron Kiiza, were briefly prevented from entering the premises to meet Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo. Although the lawyers were eventually cleared, police officers barred journalists from accompanying them.
The lawyers were following up on the issue of civilians being tried in the court-martial, which the Constitutional Court ruled unconstitutional. However, the Supreme Court, led by the Chief Justice, is yet to rule on the government’s appeal. The lawyers were unable to meet the Chief Justice as he was reportedly engaged in a meeting.
