Activists decry delayed prosecution over oil pipeline protest
A group of 20 environmental activists, students, and Project Affected Persons who were arrested in August last year after staging protests over the ongoing construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline have decried what they call delayed prosecution. The activists, who were granted bail last year and ordered to report to the court, say they have reported to Buganda Road Court three times, but neither the judge nor the state prosecutor has shown up, which has frustrated them due to wasted time and transport costs. The court registrar adjourned their case to April 7 because the judge in charge of the trial was on leave.
