Brewery company wants gov’t to fight illicit alcohol
Nile Breweries have called on the government to be intentional in fighting illicit alcohol that they say accounts for 65 per cent of the market, posing high risks to the population. World Health Organisation Statistics 2023 Report ranks Uganda among the leading alcohol consumers consuming 12.2 litres of alcohol per person annually, double the African region average of 6.3 litres and the global average of 6.18 litres per person per year. It is on the back of these gloomy statistics that NBL launched its annual SMART drinking campaigns to remind consumers of the need to regulate their consumption and guard against the dangers associated with alcohol abuse.
