Call for East African unity to honor Julius Nyerere's legacy
East African member states have been asked to recognize the role played by Pan-Africanists like the former president of Tanzania, Julius Nyerere, who significantly contributed to the liberation of the continent. A history scholar, Prof. Mwambutsya Ndebesa, head of the history department at Makerere University, says African countries should unite and become one strong unit to avoid being recolonized. He was speaking at the launch of "TWENDE BUTIAMA," where Pan-Africanists will converge in Butiama, the birthplace of Nyerere, to commemorate his legacy and the 25th anniversary of the revival of the East African Community on October 14.
