Diana Museveni Kyaremera named patron of Ngamba Island Chimpanzee sanctuary
Diana Museveni Kyaremera, the daughter of President Museveni, has been appointed the new patron of Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Diana takes over from her mother, Janet Katakha Museveni, who has been the patron since the inception of the sanctuary in 1999. She called for more support to safeguard the chimpanzees, an endangered species that contributes significantly to Uganda's foreign exchange in the tourism sector. Currently, the sanctuary cares for at least 54 chimpanzees.
