Electoral Commission to start demarcation for 2025-2026 elections
The Electoral Commission is set to commence the demarcation of electoral areas for the 2025-2026 elections. The purpose of this exercise is to clearly define the areas of representation for Directly Elected Councilors, Women Councilors, and Councilors representing Special Interest Groups in various Local Government Councils. This activity was scheduled to begin at the start of July as per the roadmap, but it will now take place in August 2024. Various stakeholders are concerned about an increase in the number of elected leaders, which will rise to 3.3 million from 2.9 million. They argue that this increase will lead to higher administrative costs, as Juma Kirya reports.
