Government asked to leverage oil revenues to better protect elderly
Proponents of social protection are urging the government to use anticipated oil revenues to expand its social protection programs. They propose enrolling more older persons into the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE) program, which currently provides Shs 25,000 monthly to individuals aged 80 and above. Activists argue that using oil revenues to scale up the intervention would benefit the economy.
