Government urged to double efforts to reduce neonatal deaths
The government will need to spend 600 thousand US dollars which is nearly 2.4 billion shillings on 65 health facilities in the next five years if the neonatal mortality rate is to reduce to less than 12 babies per 1,000 live births by 2030. WALTER MWESIGYE reports that results from a 2023 situation analysis of the national newborn health in Uganda reveal that the money should be used to finance construction of neonatal units, purchase equipment, recruit, and train specialized health workers.
