Joint team of security officers suppress protests
About 60 people have been arrested by security operatives over their alleged involvement in sporadic protests in and around Kampala Central Business District today. The police and army foot and vehicle patrols, boosted by plainclothes intelligence personnel, maintained vigilance across the city in their efforts to quash any attempts at demonstrating. The mostly youthful demonstrators, who had been mobilizing for close to one month, aimed to march to Parliament to protest against rampant corruption and human rights abuses. We have details from our reporter Jackson Onyango.
