Judiciary acknowledges bail refund awareness gap
Following a protest by human rights activist Habib Buwembo at the Judiciary headquarters over the non-refund of his Ugandan shillings three million bail cash last week, the Judiciary has acknowledged a widespread lack of public awareness regarding the steps necessary to obtain bail refunds. Buwembo was acquitted of charges related to his comments about Parliament Speaker Anita Among but had not received a refund until yesterday. Judiciary Permanent Secretary Pius Bigirimana has since outlined the refund application process, emphasizing the need for better education on the matter, as reported by David Ijjo.
