Kwoyelo faces 78 counts of war crimes, crimes against humanity
A panel of four judges on the International Crimes Division (ICD) of the High Court has dismissed an application by former LRA commander Thomas Kwoyelo to deliver un-sworn testimony in the ongoing trial. Kwoyelo, who is facing 78 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in northern Uganda between 1987 and 2005, was set to start his defense today. Led by his lawyer Evans Ochieng, Kwoyelo had lined up 15 witnesses to defend him in court, some of whom are family members. The nature of the testimony meant that the prosecutors would not be allowed to cross-examine the witnesses. The court case is being heard by Judges Andrew Bashaija, Stephen Mubiru, Michael Elubu, and Duncan Gaswaga.
