Mbarara University finds increase in bilharzia infections
The Ministry of Health has noted an increase in Bilharzia cases across the country. This follows a new five-year research study by Mbarara University of Science and Technology in 45 districts. The findings disseminated to the Ministry of Health show that the disease has been neglected in terms of control and awareness, as many people continue to suffer from it without treatment and prevention knowledge. The Belgian government, which funded the research, has pledged to support the action towards reducing aquatic snail-borne parasitic diseases in the country.
