Uganda tackles rising drowning deaths through new partnership
The government of Uganda is partnering with other civil society organizations to develop a clear intervention to address the challenges of drowning and water accidents. According to research conducted by the Makerere University School of Public Health, over 3,000 people lose their lives due to water transport accidents or drowning, with many more going unnoticed. This is mainly attributed to a lack of awareness about the importance of using life jackets while using water transport. The government is urging Ugandans to work together with them to bring an end to this problem.
