Minister Tumwebaze urges support for coffee farmer registration
The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, has urged local leaders to support the government's program of registering all coffee farmers to enhance the coffee value chain and facilitate entry into global markets at premium prices. He acknowledged that the Uganda Coffee Development Authority, now under the Agriculture Ministry, has been registering coffee farmers and will continue until President Museveni assents to the National Coffee Amendment Bill. As of last week, the central government had registered more than 186,000 coffee farmers, covering 210,000 farms, as reported by Daniel Kibet.
