Tayebwa halts voter verification report over Constitutional concerns
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has halted proceedings on a report presented by the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, which recommended extending the voter registration and verification process and removing the involvement of security agencies like the Internal Security Organization in verifying voters. Tayebwa argued that implementing the report would violate Article 62 of the Constitution, which ensures the Electoral Commission's independence and prohibits it from being directed by any entity.
