Uganda faces child care crisis as 2.5 million children lack parental support
Children's rights activists under the Uganda Child Rights NGO Network are concerned that approximately 2.5 million children are out of parental care, exposing them to uncertain futures since they lack stable family support systems. According to them, over 50,000 children are in various children's homes, which are stretched, yet the challenge of child abandonment is on the rise. They say that only 1% of these children are placed for adoption each year, highlighting the need for increased awareness and understanding of adoption and foster care within communities. The activists were speaking to journalists in Kampala today.
