State of sports facilities in the country
Constructed in the 1950s, Mbale Stadium stood as a major sports facility in the Elgon region and hosted high-profile games including the national team and CECAFA regional championship games. Mismanagement and lack of enough high-profile games have seen the stadium go into a dilapidated state with encroachers and some farmers have turned it into a grazing ground.
