High data costs challenge Uganda’s digital transformation, experts say

As Uganda advances its digital transformation agenda, the cost of internet and data remains a significant challenge. In a recent discussion between Airtel Uganda and Nation Media Group, Airtel’s Managing Director revealed that data currently accounts for about 50% of the company’s revenue, with expectations for it to increase to 70%. However, he noted that costs are unlikely to decrease significantly unless smartphone penetration improves. Susan Nsibirwa, Managing Director of Nation Media Group, emphasized the need for affordable internet now. Ronah Nahabwe reports.
