Police in Masindi have recovered 24 tons of sugarcane allegedly stolen from Kinyara Sugar Limited, reigniting concerns over reopened weighbridges linked to illegal cane trade. NTVBusiness desk has learnt that the cane was intercepted at Rukondwa weigh-bridge, previously shut down by the Trade Ministry, but later reopened after lobbying by farmer groups. Two suspects are under arrest, while the driver is still on the run. Industry leaders say the incident underscores the need for tighter regulation to protect Uganda’s sugar sector from mounting losses.
