The Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan have not yet ratified the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community. This comes nine years after South Sudan joined the community and three years after the DRC was officially admitted. Members of the East African Legislative Assembly are concerned that the failure of the two states to ratify the treaty hinders the collective implementation of the community’s objectives.
