President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya. The appointment marks a significant shift, as Justice Batala brings a strong judicial background to a role central to promoting accountability and combating corruption across Uganda’s public sector.
Justice Batala’s appointment follows the conclusion of Hon. Kamya’s four-year tenure, which officially came to an end on Tuesday evening. The transition signals renewed momentum in the country’s anti-corruption agenda, with expectations high for a more judicially grounded approach under the leadership of Justice Batala.
The Office of the Inspector General of Government is a constitutional body tasked with promoting good governance, ensuring transparency, and investigating corruption, maladministration, and abuse of public office. With her extensive experience on the bench, Justice Batala is expected to enhance the legal rigor and independence of the IGG’s operations.
