Uganda’s health sector will now boast a fifth catheterization lab, a step in the right direction for specialized health care. The cath-lab is a specialized theatre for minimally invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures related to the heart and blood vessels. Though situated in the private Case Hospital, the catheterization lab will help reduce the burden on the Uganda Heart Institute, a government facility. The CEO, Dr. Abdul Kato Sebbaale, urged Ugandans to consider regular health checks if the country is to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases, which require costly and specialized treatment.
