The presidential candidate on the FDC ticket, Nandala Mafabi, has pledged to ensure equal pay for teachers if elected President of Uganda in 2026. He made this commitment while campaigning in Lira District in the Lango Sub-region. Mafabi criticized the government’s practice of paying science teachers significantly more than their arts counterparts, calling it unwise and detrimental to the education sector. His remarks come as arts teachers are currently on strike over salary disparities. In addition to addressing teacher pay discrepancies, Mafabi has also promised to provide compensation to victims of the war initiated by the Lord’s Resistance Army nearly two decades ago.
