Rising discrimination against women in Bunyoro land ownership

Gross discrimination against women in land ownership is on the rise in Bunyoro. A report by the Mid-Western Region Anti-Corruption Coalition (MIRAC) highlights widespread ignorance about women’s legal rights to own, inherit, and access land. Local leaders, land committees, and law enforcement agencies have failed to implement land laws, leaving many women marginalised—particularly in Kikuube District, where women are often denied customary land certificates.
