There is optimism that the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Uganda will finally shift from the planning phase to active implementation.
This follows the government’s release of over 300 billion shillings as a commitment to the contractor to commence construction of the 272-kilometre railway, which is projected to cost more than 11 trillion shillings.

According to Perez Wamburu, the Standard Gauge Railway Project Coordinator, a national content symposium has been scheduled for this Friday, August 29th, to promote local involvement in the SGR construction.
