African governments have been asked to address the challenges young people face and to involve them in decision-making and leadership to avoid the chaos that continues to emerge during elections, as seen in Kenya, Tanzania, and Cameroon. The call came during this year’s edition of the Inter-University Debate, involving 25 Ugandan universities, organized by the Centre for Constitutional Governance, focusing on the election process in Uganda. The keynote speaker at the event, Hon. Shacky Timburwa, a legislator from Zimbabwe, emphasized the need to channel the energy that youth have into meaningful initiatives, including leadership. The debate was won by Cynthia Apili, a first-year student at Makerere University.
