Uganda's success in technological innovations | Morning At NTV
Yunga Technologies created an online safety network that links people in the same area together, as well as to the police, in the event of an attack or other emergency. On 6th July 2023, the Ugandan security-tech startup, Yunga, was announced as the winner of the prestigious Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation organized by the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering, walking away with £25,000 (about shs 118 million). Yunga is a local digital security network that connects neighbors to each other and the police within a 20km radius via a physical device, smartphone app, or SMS service, providing security at a low cost. It became the second Ugandan startup to scoop the award after Matibabu’s triumph in 2018. We are joined by Anatoli Kirigwajjo - Co-founder & CEO of Yunga Technologies and Winner of Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2023, Royal Academy of Engineering UK, and Alice Radley - Programme Manager, Royal Academy of Engineering Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.
