EV adoption stalls as import taxes return
The government targets a 25% transition to EVs in its fleet by 2030 and 100% by 2040. However, the targets have hit a snag after government taxes drove electric vehicles off the road. Last year, the government reinstated a 25% import duty on electric vehicles (EVs), including fully electric and hybrid vehicles, and electric motorcycles—a significant increase from the previous zero duty—which car dealers say is prohibitive.
