Farming communities in Uganda lose control over food production
The latest study by the Land Equity Movement in Uganda (LEMU) and the Coalition of Pastoralist Civil Society Organizations has revealed serious concerns that farming communities in Teso, Kumi, and Lango are losing their power over food production as a result of a decline in local foods and seed varieties. The group is now urging the government to address these grave concerns, including land dispossession, land grabbing, improper land fragmentation, and structural limitations associated with the policy, as well as the disappearance and devaluation of local Indigenous seed varieties and the dominance of market-based GMOs.
